ZDF (Zweites DeutschesFernsehen) is Germany’s national public television broadcaster, operating as an independent, non-profit corporation under the authority of the 16 federal states. Based in Mainz, ZDF runs 16 regional and 18 foreign studios.
A Signiant system connects its foreign studios (e.g., Washington, USA) and German locations to Mainz via 4 Signiant Managers and about 46 Agents, transferring around 1 Petabyte annually. An integration with ZDF’s ESB (VIO) links Aspera users to Signiant for file transfers, using Signiant as the backend to route files correctly. Enhancements include ElasticSearch support and a new continuous rollout pipeline, with further implementation ongoing.
Additionally, 31 regional offices use Woody IN2IT access to ingest content into local AVID Interplay PAM systems and send material to the headquarters in Mainz, Germany through the Signiant Managers and Agents system. The solution supports regional autonomous post-production operations in combination with decentralized ingest to the central production facilities.
