ProSiebenSat.1, one of the leading companies in Germany, combines popular entertainment brands with a strong dating, video and commerce and ventures portfolio under one roof. They have a wide reach with their 15 free and pay TV channels in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, available live and on-demand.

Project 1

x-dream-group planned and implemented the „File- Based Media Exchange platform“ (short FME) of the ProSiebenSat.1 broadcasting group based on Signiant‘s Managers + Agent’s workflow manager and file transport software family. This platform is the central gateway for any later proposal to broadcast content.

This includes feature films, commercials, as well as dailies, and thus time-sensitive deliveries. The platform consists of the following elements: file-based delivery (pre-ingest), analysis and transcoding for the standardisation of all sources, an automatic FTP pull, Signiant upload, manual uploads, WatchFolder on UNC shares, etc. Last introduced was the fully automatic case-dependent correction of MXF files with MXF Cubetec Legalizer. Significant property is a largely fully automatic processing of content.

The platform can also transmit content to the content partners of the ProSiebenSat.1 broadcasting group. Therefore, it is also a central output port. A specialty of this installation is an excessive reporting of all work steps, which enables fully automated internal activity allocation.

Project 2

The Central Transcoding Platform is partly used by the File Based Media Exchange platform (FME), but also by various other MAM and CMS systems. x-dream-media provided the integration with FME and, in addition, the WebGUI for monitoring the overall usage of the transcoding farm by Capella Systems (product Cambria FTC).

To do so, x-dream-media supplied its in-house developed OneGUI software incl. some customer-specific enhancements. The transcoding platform became a multi-tenant shared resource with separation of user access to the farm monitoring layer.

The initial deployment took place at the beginning of 2018. The transcoding farm was deployed back in 2016 by x-dream-distribution. The transcoding farm is continuously growing and its integrations to various management systems are continuously expanding as Capella Cambria FTC is replacing various older transcoding products.

To support live event stream operations, ProSiebenSat.1’s Control Room team needed a unified, user-friendly scheduling and control interface to simplify operations, detect issues early, and adjust schedules without interrupting livestreams. But even more important, there was a need to make the functionality of the AWS Elemental live encoders of choice accessible, which is available by API control only. For instance, running sequences of a technical preroll, countdown, opener, live segment, mid-roll, another live segment and closer with individual graphic overlays was enabled.

x-dream-Fabrik by x-dream-media was introduced as a new scheduler UI for livestream playout, with ProSieben contributing key user stories that shaped the PLAYOUT development. The system is now used to schedule, manage and monitor ProSieben’s livestream playout within a single interface.
